My Connections to Play

This is what play represents to me
Back in the 80’s play time in schools was an essential part in the curriculum.  When I was in elementary I had 3 recesses and a lunch recess.  As children we enjoy those days fill with new adventures. My teachers were also involved during recess. They played with us. After school, I remember my mother telling us to go outside and play. She didn’t like us sitting all day watching T.V.

Play time now days are not the same. Sadly schools don’t have recess time like we use to have.  Districts are more concern on meeting standardize test than the well being of our children. Students spent more time studying and using technology then interacting with peers.

Play time is very important for the development of a child. Play gives the child different avenues to explore, learn and the ability to use the imaginations. As an adult I still play around. It feels so good when you take the time and just be a kid. Life is too short to worry about things that only God have the control.

Relationship Reflection

I have always wondered how this world would be if every single human being gets alone with each other. The world would be a better place if we accept each other’s differences, believes and customs. We need to be genuine and show that we care in order to build a true relationship. Building relationships between family members is very important to me. This relationship starts by having good communication between family members. Spending time talking about small, unimportant things as well as the deep important issues of life has helped me build that strong relationship with some of my family members.

I am really grateful with my sister Janet and her family. They invited us to stay at their house until we find a job. Janet is younger than me. We grew up together and we have been together in good and bad times. We are not perfect but we know that we can count with each other. I remember when I use to get bully at school and she was always their making me feel better. It’s funny I took couple of swimming lessons but I never learn how to swim. One day I was drowning and Janet was there to save me from one of my biggest fear.  Now we are adults and I see my sister as my mentor. All that it take to built a strong relationship with someone is communicating, accepting and showing love.

Piaget Quote

The goal of education is not to increase the amount of knowledge but to create the possibilities for a child to invent and discover, to create men who are capable of doing new things. Jean Piaget
